Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 61-65; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 52-55; Vertebrae: 67-70. Opercle with an ocellated spot. Gill membranes fused with the isthmus. Usually 6 pores in preopercular canal; no posterior otic sensory canal pore; posterior interorbital pore usually absent. A pale bar below eye; a pale stripe from posterodorsal region of eye to anterior of lateral line; pale median stripe from tip of snout to origin of dorsal fin. Spots arranged in 3-5 irregular rows. |
Inhabits coarse sand bottoms with weed and sponge. The species has been taken by trawl in 4 to 8 m from Exmouth Gulf and at 60 m in the Arafura Sea. |
