Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  3.75 cm SL (male/unsexed); 5.15 cm SL (female)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: endemic to the Escambia, Blackwater, and Choctawhatchee river drainages of southeastern Alabama and western panhandle Florida, USA.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal soft rays: 6-8; Vertebrae: 35-37
Biology:  Occurs in shallow unimpounded rivers with bottoms consisting of sand and gravel, combined with occasional small rubble, and water clarity ranges from relatively clear to moderately turbid (Ref. 116539).
