Family:  Ambassidae (Asiatic glassfishes)
Max. size:  10 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Laos and Cambodia to the Malay Peninsula and Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Second anal fin spine not much enlarged (Ref. 43281).
Biology:  Occurs in rivers, streams and lakes (Ref. 56749). Found in sluggish rivers and floodplains of the lower Mekong. Feeds on aquatic invertebrates (Ref. 12693) and insects (Ref. 9497). Reported to be a mouth brooder. Occasionally seen in markets. Its bright coloration makes it a desirable aquarium fish (Ref. 12693). Used as feeds for caged fishes (Ref. 56749).
