Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 48 - 60 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacifc: Japan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-15; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7; Vertebrae: 26-26. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: D X,5, fourth dorsal-fin spine longest and no fleshy flaps on dorsal-fin spines; pectoral rays 13, all unbranched; branched caudal-fin rays 8 + 7; lateral line scales 28 (including intermittent and terminal pitted scales); circumpeduncular scales 12; preopercle without antrorse spines or serrations ventrally, with 2–3 weak serrations or crenulations posteriorly (Ref. 117635).
Biology:  This species is only known from Izu Ocean Park, where it has been collected and photographed on rocky reefs at depths of 48-60 meters (Ref. 117635)
