Distinguished from all its congeners in Balkan Peninsula by the combination of the following characters: maxilla short (26-39% HL) but deep (11-14% HL); 21-23 gill rakers; body depth 25-28% SL; 15-17 scales between base of adipose and lateral line; back and upper part of head yellowish, lacking spots; black spots small and numerous, more dense below lateral line, red spots more evenly distributed (Ref. 59043). |
Found in stretches with swift, clear water, and in small waterfalls. Spawns in spring (Ref. 59043). |
