Definition of Term

aquaculture
(English) Commonly termed 'fish farming' but broadly the commercial growing of marine or freshwater animals and plants in water. The farming of aquatic organisms, including fish, mollusks and aquatic plants, i.e., some form of intervention in the rearing process, such as stocking, feeding, protection from predators, fertilizing of water, etc. Farming implies individual or corporate ownership of the farmed organisms. (French) Normalement désigné sous le nom de 'exploitation piscicole' mais largement définie comme l’élevage commericial des animaux marins ou d'eau douce et plantes aquatique. La culture des organismes aquatiques, y compris des poissons, des mollusques et des plantes aquatiques, [c.-à-d., sous form d'intervention dans le processus de l'élevage, tel qu'empoissonnement, alimentation, protection contre des prédateurs, fértilisation de l'eau, etc. Cela implique la propriété individuelle ou collective des organismes d'élevage.
