Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 8. Having 8-12 dark bars wider than interspaces on the body; a broad, dark, inner axial stripe; posterior margin of the last body bar distinctly concave; dorsal fin with a black spot at base of simple rays and first branched ray and a brown one at base of branched rays 3-7; all fins with partly or entirely black rays and hyaline membranes; upper lip smooth, without median incision, folds or furrows.
Seems to prefer stretches with swift current and stony or rocky substrate, but also found over sandy substrate (Ref. 43281).
