Dorsal soft rays (total): 77; Anal soft rays: 49; Vertebrae: 58. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: with antrorse, hook-like projection at the postero-ventral angle of the maxillary; a median spine on frontals above and behind eyes; low number of pectoral fin rays (12); ethmoidal spine is strong; prolonged pectoral peduncle adnate to body; anterior gill arch with 2-3 slightly developed rakers; palatines with a tooth row; short gill filaments on anterior arch, 1-2 times length of developed rakers; vertebrae, precaudal 20, total 58; fin rays, D 77, A 49 and pectoral 12 (Ref. 93007).
