Dorsal spines (total): 6 - 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9 - 10; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 12 - 13. Reddish brown pigment on the snout and cheek, clear fins, and deciduous scales (Ref. 37816). Two pairs of epipleural ribs, no predorsal bones, and hypurals 1-4 are fused into a double fan-shaped structure; 9+15 vertebrae. Transparent with no obvious markings (Ref. 10632).
Inhabits clear seaward reefs (Ref. 37816). Nocturnal species (Ref. 7300). Solitary; inhabits deep caves and crevices during day (Ref 90102).
