Africa: lower Tano River drainage in southwestern Ghana (Ref. 3788, 57259) and lower Comoé, Banco, Boudo, Bia, Mé, lower Bandama, lower Sassandra and Cavally river drainages in southern Côte d'Ivoire (Ref. 3788, 57259). May also be present in the extreme southeastern part of Liberia (Ref. 27139, 57259).

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6 - 8; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 11 - 15. Diagnosis: slender and small ‘Lampeye’ species with a long caudal fin and extensions to the end of the dorsal and anal fins; dorsal fin with 6-8 rays, anal fin with 11-15 rays; scales on mid-lateral series 27-29 (Ref. 57259).
Colouration: Male colouration: translucent pale olive, with two bands on the sides, comprising lines of strongly iridescent merged spots of light green to blue-green colour; the upper band is above the mid-lateral line and the lower band follows the lower body line; some small iridescent spots may be present between these two bands; the dorsal and anal fins are pale green to yellow-orange, the colour becoming more intense distally, and a red marginal band may be present; some red-brown spots may be present near the base of these fins; the caudal fin is pale yellow to orange, with a red margin and dark red spots, usually concentrated in curved lines (Ref. 57259). Female colouration: translucent grey overall, relatively dark on the back and silver-grey in the ventral parts, with a light silver iridescence on the sides; all fins are colourless (Ref. 57259). Both sexes show a distinct light blue reflective iris (Ref. 57259).
Found in small rivers and brooks in the swampy rainforest on coastal plains (Ref. 7372, 57259). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
