Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Lateral spots small, roundish and numerous (usually more than 40). Flank pigmented below zone Z4. Two laminae circularis.
A short-lived species. Adults inhabit marshlands, lowland water courses, springs and associated wetlands (Ref. 26100) with still to moderately flowing clear shallow waters and mud to silt bottom (Ref. 59043). Oviparous, possibly with distinct pairing during breeding similar to congeners (Ref. 205). Population is threatened due to very restricted area of occurrence (Ref. 59043).
Life cycle and mating behavior

During courtship, 'the male follows the female and, after both enter dense vegetation (e.g. filamentous algae), the male forms a complete ring around the female's body behind the dorsal as the female releases the eggs' (Ref. 59043).
