Body lightly grayish brown and with vertical or irregular band-like stripes of deeply brown; yellowish brown on head sides. Barbels 3 pairs; scales minute; pectoral and pelvic fins short and bases with long skin folds.
Lives in the upper and middle streams of rivers and shoals and mountain streams. Carnivore and feeds on small fishes (Ref. 45563). Spawn from March to May and the roe is viscous and sticks to rocks (Ref. 45563).
