Etymology: Eviota: No etymology given, suggested by Christopher Scharpt: from Latin 'eu' for 'true' and 'iota' for anything very small, in combination 'truly very small' referring to it as being the smallest vertebrate at the time it has benn described by Jenkins (thus, making the suggestion by Scharpt plausible; pseudaprica: Name from Latin ‘pseudo’ meaning false and ‘apricus’ for sunny; it is an allusion to the similarity in coloration of this species to Sueviota aprica , especially on the nape; name is treated as a feminine nominative singular adjective.

This species is apparently a relatively deep-reef inhabitant primarily associated with small caves in the vertical slopes of the drop-offs. Collected by rotenone or clove oil from outer reef, vertical wall of drop-off with small caves, broad sandy ledge at 30 m, some gorgonians, sea fans, sponges, various hard corals, Acropora, Pocillopora, Halimeda (Ref. 122127).
