Dorsal spines (total): 0; Anal spines: 0. Snout long, sharply pointed, broad in juveniles becoming narrower and relatively long in adults. Scute-like scales bluntly pointed and denticulate; scales deeply embedded and covered with thick skin, the margins obscure. Row of enlarged scute-like scales along the base of the anal fin does not extend forward of anus. Overall color is grayish.
