Etymology: Chirolophis: Greek, cheir = hand + Greek, lophos = crest (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Sotaro Saito was director of the Museum of Aomori, Japan. He presented the type specimen to the authors, but we have been unable to find further details about him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
