Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Found in still, shallow, marginal waters of tanks and rivers, mostly with muddy bottoms. They browse close to the substrate in shallow water. Feed on crustaceans, insects and plankton. About 150 eggs are laid in batches of about 20 at a time; eggs hatch in about a day, and fry are free-swimming the next day. Aquarium keeping: in groups of 5 or more individuals; minimum aquarium size 60 cm (Ref. 51539).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01096 (0.00849 - 0.01416), b=3.00 (2.96 - 3.04), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.2   ±0.0 se; based on diet studies.
Generation time: 0.8 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 2 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
Nutrients (Ref. 124155):  Calcium = 765 [312, 1,452] mg/100g; Iron = 2.46 [1.23, 4.84] mg/100g; Protein = 17.3 [15.4, 19.1] %; Omega3 = 0.333 [0.150, 0.790] g/100g; Selenium = 19.2 [7.9, 43.0] μg/100g; VitaminA = 14.7 [5.7, 38.1] μg/100g; Zinc = 3.67 [2.30, 5.42] mg/100g (wet weight); based on nutrient studies.
