Các vây lưng mềm (tổng cộng) : 13 - 14; Tia mềm vây hậu môn: 9; Động vật có xương sống: 30 - 31. Distinguishable from all other species in the modesta-group by the combination of the following characters: 9-10 branched dorsal fin rays, 13-18 narrow, brownish, irregular, bars on sides, a broad bar on caudal peduncle and numerous small brownish spots on caudal fin lobes (Ref. 13469); and narrow pale bar in front and behind black bar on caudal peduncle (Ref. 43281).
