Anterior nostril pierced in front side of a flap; a short and very wide processus dentiformis, extending over about half of exposed mouth gape; mouth wide, lower jaw notched in large specimens; upper lip notched, lower lip only feebly interrupted medially; lateral line complete; anus about 1-2 eye diameters in front of anal-fin origin; 8.5 branched dorsal-fin rays; 5.5 branched anal-fin rays; caudal fin emarginate, with 9+8 branched rays; axillary pelvic lobe present; body with 7-10 broad dark bars, wider than interspaces, relatively regularly shaped and organized; black bar at caudal-fin base complete; no black blotch at dorsal-fin base; top of head dotted (Ref. 36949).
Found in rapids, under boulders, in about 0.6 m of fast flowing water; collected by women using baskets (Ref. 36949).
