Etymology: Schistura: Greek, schizein = to divide + Greek, oura = tail; an allusion to forked caudal fins (Ref. 45335).

Differs from other species of the genus in Vietnam by the combination of the following characters: body with 11-15 regular dark bars wider than interspaces; a complete black bar at caudal-fin base; predorsal back and belly densely covered with scales; lateral line complete; 8 1/2 dorsal-fin rays; 9+8 branched caudal-fin rays; 8 pelvic rays; axillary pelvic lobe not reduced and not laterally fused with body; pelvic-fin origin below simple or first branched dorsal-fin rays; caudal peduncle 1.1-1.3 times longer than deep; lateral head length 108-117% HL; median caudal-fin ray 74.7-86.1% of length of upper caudal-fin lobe; interorbital distance 30.2-40.2% HL; slender processus dentiformis and long barbels, outer rostral barbel 30.7-42.9% HL (Ref. 40772).
