Eponymy: Dr Ricardo de Souza Rosa (d: 1954) is a Brazilian ichthyologist who is a Professor at the Department of Systematics and Ecology, Federal University of Paraíba, Brazil. [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; demersal. Tropical
South America: lower to upper Amazon basin.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 3.5 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 49504)
Dorsal soft rays (total): 44 - 56; Anal soft rays: 46 - 49; Vertebrae: 35 - 36. Lacks a gill opening on the eyed side; having 2 or 3 series of scales with rounded posterior margin and larger than other trunk scales along dorsal, anal and pelvic fin bases on the eyed side. Similar to Apionichthys asphyxiatus in the absence of a gill opening on the eyed side, but differs in its larger interorbital space that is 2 to 4 times the orbital diameter (vs. interorbital space half the orbital diameter).
