Distinguished from all congeners by the following combination of characters: caudal end of the anal fin with a clear patch; dorso-posterior portion of the preopercle with two laterosensory canal pores ( from the preopercular-mandibular series); progressive loss of alternating dark and light pigments bands with the size; head length, 10.2-11.2% total length; anal fin pterygiophores with many scales (9-10); few pored lateral-line scales to first ramus (47-48); total number of pored lateral-line scales 84 (n=1); relatively large eye, orbital diameter 8.5-9.0% HL) (Ref. 54466).
