Dorsal spines (total): 3 - 4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal spines: 2 - 3; Anal soft rays: 5 - 6; Vertebrae: 43 - 45. A species with small (much smaller than pupil diameter), uniform and sparse epidermal tubercles on head and body; supratemporal commissure interrupted and contains usually 2+2 pores. Lateral lobes of the lower lip is long (usually at least half of the barbel length of the third pair). Origin of the pelvic fins always somewhat anterior to the origin of the dorsal fin. Basibranchial-4 present. Vertebrae 43-45. Upper part of complex neuralis is boatlike in shape (Ref. 51545).
