Etymology: diactithrix: Name from Greek words 'di' (two), 'actis' (ray) and 'thrix' (thread); reflects distinctive feature, the existence of an elongated second dorsal finray in males.

This species is distinguished by the following characters: length of dorsal fin base essentially exceeds the distance from its end to adipose fin; eye diameter bigger than snout length; dorsal fin is composed of 17 finrays, of which 2nd ray is greatly elongated as thread, and last 5 fin rays are longer than others; first branchial arch carries 13-15 gill rakers; 38-42 (usually 40 and more) scales in lateral line; 42 vertebrae; 10-12 well developed pyloric caeca (Ref. 75183).
