Etymology: Minysicya: Name from Greek 'minys' meaning small, for its very small adult size (1.5 cm being the largest ) and 'sikya', an old Greek word for cupping glass, refers to the cup-shaped pelvic fins; caudimaculata: Named for the black spot at the caudal fin base.

Dorsal spines (total): 6 - 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 8; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 7 - 8; Vertebrae: 26. This species is characterized by the following: small, slender with D1 VI, D2 and A I, 8; pectoral rays all unbranched, often with 14 rays, none are thickened; 22-24 longitudinal scales; 6-7 TRB; ctenoid scales on body, extending forward to just above pectoral base, but not onto head; small, fused pelvic fins forming a narrow cup, usually with a very narrow anteriorly-facing fold on fraenum, no or almost no fleshy development on pelvic spines; reduced sensory papillae on head; oculoscapular canals on head separate, with 2 anterior and 2 posterior interorbital pores, posterior oculoscapular and nasal pores absent, preopercular pores 3; no canine teeth; protrusible upper jaw, opening downward; translucent body with 6 red internal bars and small black spots on base of caudal fin (Ref. 76968).
Apparently inhabits over open sand or up in the water column. Collected using rotenone over Halimeda or Caulerpa or Zostera beds (Ref. 76968).
