Etymology: Spectrolebias: Latin, spectrum = imagen of a thing, apparition + Greek, lebias, ou = a kind of small fish (Ref. 45335); pilleti: Named for environmentalist Didier Pillet, one of the collectors of the new species.
Eponymy: Didier Pillet is a French aquarist and environmentalist. He was one of the collectors of the species along with Michel Beuchey (q.v.), Jean Marc Beltramon and Christine Lambert, with whom he often collects in the Amazon. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
