Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 9. Schismatogobius arscuttoli is distinguished by the following characters: pectoral fin usually with 16 rays; pectoral fins banded with rows of dark spots; membrane in first dorsal fin posterior to spine 6 connected to base of spine of second dorsal fin; and ventral surface of head in male whitish with a blackish border, black mentum and isthmus; frenum slightly pigmented (vs. ventral surface of head in female whitish with a blackish border, sometimes with a white mentum; frenum and pelvic disk generally whitish) (Ref. 116448).
Inhabits streams with moderate to fast flowing water in shallow areas of gravel (Ref. 116448).
