This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: caudal fin no black spots on its lobe tips; black spot present on dorsal-fin origin; lateral body scales with centrally discontinuous vertical striae, and with numerous pores posteriorly; body scales (except the ventral scutes) non-deciduous; pelvic fin with one unbranched and seven branched rays; anal fin with three unbranched and 15-18 (modally 17) branched rays; gill rakers on first gill arch, upper limb 59-77 (69), lower limb 92-118 (104), total 155-190 (173); scutes on ventral edge of body 17-18 (18) + 13-15 (14) = 31-33 (32); pseudobranchial flaments 18-21 (19); head long, its length 26.3-29.6% SL; anal-fin base short, with length 13.5-16.2% SL; upper jaw relatively long, its length 10.9-12.4% SL; lower jaw relatively long, with length 11.5-13.1% SL (Ref. 128123).
