Dorsal soft rays (total): 8; Anal soft rays: 13 - 16. This species is distinguished by the following characters: with a well-defined dark midlateral stripe on body starting over the eye; D 8 branched rays; 3 premaxillary teeth; an inconspicuous caudal-peduncle spot (Ref. 119420).
Inhabits a small, clear water stream 1.5-4 m wide and 0.3-1.5 m deep, with swift water current, and sandy bottom. It was captured in a shallow (0.2-0.6 m), and narrow (0.5-1.5 m) temporary channel and syntopically with Hyphessobrycon cf. vilmae, Hyphessobrycon loweae, Characidium mirim and unidentified species of Characidium sp., and Hemigrammus sp. (Ref. 119420).
