This species differs from Odontocharacidium varii by the following characters: absence of the antorbital, supraorbital laterosensory canal and of postcleithrum 1 (vs. presence of these 3 characters in O. varii); with bars restricted to the dorsal portion of the body (vs. conspicuous bars extending ventrally to the middle portion of the body); absence of blotches at the tip of the caudal peduncle (vs. presence of two dark round blotches at the tip of caudal peduncle (Ref. 122685).
