Etymology: Pterocryptis: Greek, pteron = wing, fin + Greek, kryptos = hidden (Ref. 45335); crenula: From the Latin crenula meaning small notch, in reference to the relatively shallow notch between the confluent anal and caudal fins diagnostic of this species. Used as a noun.
