Etymology: javahe: Name derived from the Javaés hill, where the type locality area is situated, which is based on the name of an indigenous tribe of people inhabiting the middle Araguaia River basin.

Collected from the shallowest parts of small streams, about 10-20 cm deep, locally known as Veredas or Buritizais (the streams are dominated by the buriti-palm Mauritia flexuosa), with orange clay bottom, in open vegetation of the Brazilian Cerrado. During the collection of the type series, the water was clear, pH 5.8 (Ref. 59346).
