Diagnosed easily from all other species of the genus Triplophysa by the following characters: dorsal fin with 10 branched rays; anal fin with 6-7 branched rays; body covered by tiny scales; lateral line complete; body with 6-7 broad vertical bars; 1 narrow longitudinal stripe along lateral line; caudal fin deeply forked; caudal fin base with a large black spot; both lobes of caudal fin with 2 black bars; posterior tip of pelvic fin surpasses anus; a developed axillary lobe present at pelvic-fin base; and upper lip completely interrupted at the middle (Ref. 76753).
