Etymology: Adelotremus: Name from Greek 'adelos' meaning concealed and 'trema' for hole, referring to the discovery of this fish hiding in a calcareous polychaete tube; deloachi: Named for Ned DeLoach, in recognition and appreciation of his books, magazine articles and photographs that celebrate the beauty and diversity of reef fishes.

This species is distinguished from A. leptus by the following characters: D X (vs. IX); vertebrae 12 + 23 (vs. 13 + 19); mid-dorsal supratemporal pores 2 (vs. 1); males with a conspicuous blue ocellus between dorsal-fin spines, absent in females (Ref. 117352).
Occurs on sandy bottom; sticks halfway out of holes and when spooked, disappears down into its hole (Ref. 117352). Caught by hand net or clove oil (Ref. 117352).
