Etymology: Ambassis: Derived from Greek, anabasis = climbing up (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr Antoine Maurice Fontoynont (1869–1948) was a pathologist who was the President of the Malagasy Academy and Director of the Antananarivo School of Medicine. He lived in Madagascar (1898–1948), where the glassfish is endemic. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
